Abstract
Patients with neuromuscular disease have high risk of perioperative complications such as cardiovascular or respiratory dysfunction. These patients have increased susceptibility to neuromuscular blocking drugs. It is also difficult to predict the effect of anticholinesterases used for antagonizing neuromuscular blocking agents. Therefore, in these patients, neuromuscular blocking drugs and reversal agents should be used with caution and titrated based on neuromuscular monitoring. Sugammadex designed to encapsulate rocuronium bromide, provides a rapid and complete reversal of the effects of rocuronium and vecuronium. Therefore, sugammadex can be an ideal choice for the reversal of neuromuscular blockers in these patients. Here, with literature reviews, we present the anesthetic experience of a patient with muscular dystrophy where sugammadex was used to reverse neuromuscular block.
